Grant Jefferson, aged 31, originally from Austin, Texas, is now working as a locum pharmacist in Croxteth, Liverpool, UK. Croxteth is not a particularly safe place, and there is a relatively high level of drug use. Grant is a devout Christian and does not agree with the needle exchange service in Croxteth. He refuses point blank to run the service on his shift.
Grant believes in educating the service users about why injecting is harmful and addictive. He refuses to offer needle exchange because he believes it promotes intravenous drug use.
However, the large company he works for is now putting considerable pressure on Grant to provide the service instead of signposting to another service provider. He fears they are trying to ‘move him on’.
